Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ), or the National Health Fund, is the central public institution responsible for managing and financing Poland's public healthcare system. Operating under the Polish Ministry of Health, NFZ is primarily funded through compulsory health insurance contributions from citizens' salaries and other income sources. NFZ administers a universal healthcare model that ensures access to a wide range of medical services for all insured residents of Poland. This includes primary care, specialist consultations, hospital treatments, emergency medical services, and certain medications. The Fund also covers preventive care, such as vaccinations, and provides services for specific groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and disabled individuals. NFZ serves all Polish residents who are insured, as well as EU/EEA citizens residing in Poland with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
