Opportunity Insights is a non-partisan, not-for-profit research and policy institute based at Harvard University. Founded by economists Raj Chetty, John Friedman, and Nathaniel Hendren, the organization focuses on improving economic opportunity and upward mobility in the United States. It utilizes big data and rigorous scientific research to identify barriers to economic success and develop scalable policy solutions that help families rise out of poverty. The institute conducts interdisciplinary research on economic mobility, poverty, and social policy, working closely with policymakers to translate findings into actionable policies. It also collaborates with scholars from various disciplines to foster new perspectives and train future social scientists. One of its key tools is the Opportunity Atlas, an interactive mapping tool that provides detailed data on children's outcomes in adulthood across the U.S., helping to identify geographic disparities in economic mobility. Through its efforts, Opportunity Insights aims to ensure that all children have a fair chance at economic success, regardless of their background.
