The Golub Capital Board Fellows Program is a rigorous, 20-month program that connects 100 top Kellogg students to Chicago-area nonprofits for a distinct opportunity in board service. Each year the program selects 50 students as “fellows” from an outstanding pool Kellogg MBA students. These fellows serve as ex-officio board members for specific nonprofit organizations while simultaneously completing two courses in board governance at Kellogg. Kellogg Board Fellows is part of the Kellogg Public-Private Interface (KPPI), an initiative dedicated to teaching and researching key issues at the intersection of business and society. The purpose of the program is three-fold: 1. To prepare Kellogg students to be socially responsible leaders through academic training in board governance and experiential learning through service on nonprofit boards. 2. To support nonprofit organizations by applying fellows’ professional experience and academic backgrounds to solve strategic, organizational and operational issues that enhance the work of nonprofit boards. 3. To build Kellogg's reputation for producing strong, socially responsible, community-oriented leaders while making a positive impact in the Chicago area. Unlike internships that focus on day-to- day operations in a nonprofit, this program exposes students to the dynamics of board governance in nonprofit organizations. Fellows serve as ex-officio board members for a nonprofit partner while completing courses in board governance at Kellogg. Each fellow also completes a strategic project designed to leverage their skills and advance the work of their nonprofit partner. Nonprofits who participate in the Board Fellows program benefit in a number of ways: tapping into the talents and insights of a Kellogg student; delegating an important strategic project to a fellow; accessing the Kellogg and Northwestern community; and developing the next generation of civic leaders.
