The Japan Academy is an institution established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to honor distinguished scientists. It was founded in 1882 with Fukuzawa Yukichi as its first president. The academy is composed of 150 members selected based on their academic achievements. It conducts various activities to contribute to the development of science, including awarding prizes, publishing research, and organizing international exchanges.
