Igreja Universal, or the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), is a Christian denomination founded in 1977 by Bishop Edir Macedo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The church began its journey in a bandstand at the Garden of Meier and quickly expanded from a former funeral home to numerous facilities across Brazil and internationally. The UCKG is known for its religious services, which include spiritual guidance, faith healing, and community support. It has a strong media presence, operating RecordTV, one of Brazil's largest television networks, and publishing the widely circulated newspaper Folha Universal. The church is active in community outreach programs that focus on social support and spiritual development, claiming a presence in 100 countries and over 5,000 churches in Brazil alone.
