“Faster identification of the best donor worldwide” is the goal of the ZKRD (Zentrales Knochenmarkspender-Register Deutschland, German National Bone Marrow Donor Registry). Since its foundation in 1992, the ZKRD based in Ulm has been the hub of the entire donor search process. Its database is used to compare the pseudonymized profiles of all donors typed in Germany with the data of patients who require a blood stem cell transplant. Using the ZKRD's own OptiMatch software, around 60 ZKRD employees process search queries from Germany and abroad to ensure that the best donor can be identified for each patient as quickly as possible. Thanks to its global network the ZKRD is also granted access to the databases of international registries.
