Insurance

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) is a government-owned Japanese Export Credit Agency (ECA) that provides insurance for Japanese companies to cover risks that arise in cross-border business related to export, investment, and finance. NEXI's insurance is supported by the Japanese government's credit as well as political and diplomatic backing, which is vital for Japan's economic growth strategy and for ensuring Japanese companies' international competitive edge. Many countries operate national trade insurance systems to prepare for massive insurance payments caused by country risks which can't be covered by private insurance. The Japanese government was in charge of the trade insurance system since its establishment in 1950 until March 2001. NEXI was established in April 2001 to administer trade insurance. NEXI then became a wholly-owned government corporation in April 2017.
