Gunma University (GU) is located near the northern boundary of the Kanto Plain, approximately 100 km northwest of Tokyo. GU is surrounded by the three majestic peaks, Mts. Akagi, Haruna and Myogi, whose shapes are incorporated in the school emblem. The University was founded in 1949 as a member of the new post-war system of national universities. It is composed of four faculties: Education, Social and Information Studies, Medicine and Health Sciences, and the School of Science and Technology. In addition to undergraduate programs, the university offers postgraduate courses in several fields: * A Master's Program and Professional Degree Course in the Graduate School of Education * A Master's Program in the Graduate School of Social and Information Studies * Master's and Doctoral Programs in the Graduate School of Medicine * Master's and Doctoral Programs in the Graduate School of Health Sciences * Master's and Doctoral Programs in the Graduate School of Science and Technology Each year, between 5,000-5,200 undergraduate students and 1,500-1,600 graduate students are enrolled, including 250-300 international students. There are also 25-30 inteGunma Universityrnational exchange students from sister universities overseas. Gunma University has a distinguished record of educational and research activities in collaboration with educational and research institutions at home and abroad.
