Welcome to UMinho! The University of Minho (UMinho), a young, thriving and internationally minded Portuguese university, was founded in 1973 and started its academic activity in 1974. It is located in the North of Portugal, in the Minho region, in Braga and Guimarães, two cities where a profound historical heritage meets a young, dynamic, and culture-oriented population. In its 40 years of life, combining a strategic vision of innovation and a careful scientific, pedagogical, administrative, and financial management, UMinho has developed a significant status of national and international recognition and affirmation. As a result, UMinho has been consistently placed among the 100 best universities in the world under 50 years, improving its position every year. UMinho unequivocally assumes the principle that quality and quality assurance constitute fundamental vectors for its functioning and development. Furthermore, the University of Minho pioneered approaches aimed at serving the scientific community and the society at large. Thus, it was the first Portuguese university to adhere to the open access movement, as well as the first Portuguese Higher Education Institution to publish its sustainability report using the Global Report Initiative Guidelines. UMinho is a successful, inclusive and sustainable university that has its doors open to students aiming for a high standard education firmly rooted on cutting edge research, within a warm interpersonal environment.
